Radical love.

God has been amazing recently, showing me so many different lessons and and areas to grow in and my heart and thoughts have been changed in deep and long-term ways.

One of the big things God has been stirring in me are big picture thoughts about the future, not detailed steps, but about how I want to live my life.
I have been reading Shane Claibourne's "Irresistible Revolution" which has been exciting and challenging and God has been changing me and my thinking throughout it. It's a great book - some of which I agree with, some of which I'm more dubious about.

The main thing God has challenged me on and from that, change has come, is my vision and what my dreams are for my future.
Had you asked me a few months ago what I envisioned for the next few years, I would have told you I want to finish a three-year degree, start a career, get married, have kids at some point, be a stay-at-home mum, take kids to school, then maybe go back to work at some point, have grand-kids and then die. Great. Is that literally all there is to life? I just got to a point where I wondered if there was more? Because if that's life, it's not the life I want to lead. I'm not saying that kind of life is boring or wrong or anything, I just don't know if its for me.
With that, I've massively been thinking about community and living in community, what that means, what that could look like, how does intentional community practically work?
Essentially, community bases on love and I want to be a lover of people and Jesus calls us to that. Community seems like a way that I can live that out, living and loving each other which is not only what Jesus calls us to for each other, but is also an incredible evangelistic tool and way of loving people who may seem unlovable, of drawing broken, seeking, lonely people into the love of Jesus and His church. Can we live out the Acts 2 community that the early church lives out?
God really stirred in me a dissatisfaction with the life I had imagined for myself, almost this "perfect life" I had envisaged. I don't want to live in the ordinary! I want to lead a God-inspired extra-ordinary life!

I want to travel. I would love to travel to the two extremes that this world lives in - go and visit churches and people in the West, for instance in America, Australia, New Zealand and see how they do life; the positives and the negatives and the differences. I then want to go and see the other extreme in India or Africa, and see the beauty in life in those hard, impoverished environments and learn from both. I want to learn to love from as many sources as I can so that I can fulfill what Jesus has called me to do in the middle ground of the two extremes.

In "Irresistible Revolution", Shane Claibourne lives in a community that leads a really simple life, living in ways that seem radical and extreme to our culture. I don't feel like God is calling me to the same life that Shane Claibourne lives, although (and this is so strange that I feel like I can say this) if God called me to that, I think I would be OK with that.
I do think there's a place to radically step out of the norm and into something drastically different, but I wonder though, if we can love radically and live in extraordinary community right were we are. There's nothing wrong with having a nice, comfortable, homely home, but we need to acknowledge and live in the truth that it is a gift from God and we can use it for Him. If God blesses me with a home like that, I want my front door to be known as an open door, where people can drop in for a cup of tea or coffee when they're having a bad day. I want people to know that if they find themselves stranded somewhere with no way of getting home, they can call my family and we'll come and get them straight away. I want a home where people know there's a place for them to sleep if they need it. I want a family home that people who have never known a "home" or a positive family can come into and know what family and a home can be. I want to have a home and a family that is built around loving people and drawing them into community and showing them Jesus.

I just want to love and live radically and invite people in and show them Jesus' love. If we love Jesus, we should be loving people: the successful ones, the arrogant ones, the least, the lost, the poor. Each and every one. It's a tough calling to love and I have no idea how to go about it but I know that I want to try and go for it.

I want Jesus to take my life on an adventure, a non-conventional and different life, living for Him, whatever that looks like.

A unproductively productive kind of day

Today is one of those days where I've gotten stuff done that needs to be done, but I feel like I barely scratched the surface. My To-Do list is long at the moment and seems to keep getting longer and more complicated as I go along.
When life feels a bit overwhelming like it feels at the moment, I've learnt a few tips in the past few weeks to make it a bit more manageable.

1. Family makes everything look a lot more OK and easier. I am so thankful to have been blessed with an amazing family who will do anything to support and help me. God did very well thinking that one up.

2. Friends are what make life sweeter.

3. 'How do you eat an elephant? - One bite at a time.' When things seem a little bit too much, breaking it all down into bite-size pieces to deal with makes it a much easier task than trying to take on a giant all at once.

4. 'The Lord's love never ends; His mercies never stop. They are new every morning; Lord, Your loyalty is great. I say to myself, "The Lord is mine so I hope in Him." The Lord is good to those who hope in Him, to those who seek Him. It is good to wait quietly for the Lord to save.' - Lamentations 3:22-26

Every day is a new day and it's the Lord who gives us the strength to master the tasks set in front of us. It is in Him that we have hope which is what keeps us going.

And to lighten the mood, it's fill in the blank Friday!

1. The most selfless thing I've ever done was love. Because loving is putting someone above yourself, your wishes and your feelings and only looking out for their best. I fail at this one regularly, but I'm learning.

2. When it comes to working out I fail. I start thinks like running with bravado and motivation only for something to disrupt my routine and that's the end of that. The only form of working out I actually stuck at was dance while I was at school. I trained a few times a week and absolutely loved it. I'm going to try and find somewhere to start that again soon. Other than that, I do a lot of walking! That is a very practical work out!

3. A woman should always be confident in herself and who God made her to be in order to be independent and strong, but soft enough to be vulnerable and let people in so they can feel welcome and loved .

4. I wish I could have an endless pot of money and then I'd go traveling, buy all the clothes I love, visit people I love who live far away and buy lots of presents and coffee and dinners for them.

5. A best friend is someone who you can talk to about anything, has seen you at your worst and will still want to hang out with you and love you and is there for you through anything. And of course, also someone who you can go shopping with, have slumber parties with and who you can just sit around with doing essentially nothing and talking about nonsense but it's fine cos you love it.

6. I can't get enough of tea and fresh coffee. I could literally drink cup after cup after cup in this autumn weather!

7. This weekend I am going to enjoy the sunny autumn weather, do some studying, hang out with friends and maybe do some baking.

XOXO

Fill in the blanks!

For me, this has turned into 'Fill in the blank Saturday, rather than Friday. Still works though.
Join in with Lauren over at The little things we do!

1. My current obsession is PINTEREST! I could literally spend hours on that beauty of a website. Whoever came up with it is a genius! Take a look! Also I am currently obsessed with The Rihanna song 'Cheers'. That's a more random current obsession.

2. Friends, fun and being loved make me happy.

3. My greatest strength is my laid-back nature .

4. Procrastination and lateness are my greatest weaknesses.

5. My life is blessed. I am in a transition period at the moment, working out where things are to fit and what my life will look like in this new phase, but I am none the less blessed with amazing and supportive family and friends.

6. In high school I was happy! I really enjoyed it! I had lots of friends and had an awesome social life, was involved in lots of different things and generally had a lot of fun! I loved it and actually miss it at times!

7. When I'm super tired I lose all energy and just lounge about grumpily or become crazy, talking about anything and everything, making no sense and generally finding myself in a state of confusion.

We are having an indian summer here rather than autumn in October, so I'm enjoying the HEAT!
Have an awesomely lovely weekend!

Hope

So our hope is in the Lord.
He is our help, our shield to protect us.
We rejoice in Him, because we trust His holy name.
Lord, show us Your love as we put our hope in You.

- Psalm 33:20-22

Please, a holiday, please?

It is September, a new year has begun and I have not had a holiday. Obviously this is not a right and there is not a law stating that citizens must have a holiday, but I could really do with one.
The last holiday I had was last summer. True and fair, I did go on more than one, but surely that's not the way it works? I mean that was a year ago!
So I have been dreaming. While being stuck here.

Italy is one of my favourite destinations. I've been lucky enough to go there quite a few times on holiday and it's one of the most beautiful and relaxing but also exciting places to go to.
This place is Cinque Terre and I love the colourful houses, built up like building blocks overlooking a beautiful blue sea. Sigh.

Greece is a country I have never visited, but it has a very high ranking on my 'Want to visit' list. I love the concept of white little houses with bright blue shutters. The little and narrow cobbled alleyways sound amazing and greek food is to die for. Find a nice little place near the sea with a pool (because I think the best combination is the sea and a pool) to finish it off and you'll have everything you need for a nice little getaway.

Then again, I definitely would not say no to going a little further afield so somewhere with white beaches and sea-through water like Mexico! That's another place I'd really like to go. Again, mexican food is one of my faves so I would be more than happy with the food options and the scenery would be pretty sweet too. Mmmm Mexico. That's a good one.

Then again, Hawaii seems to be a sweet destination. The photos I've seen of it look amazing and this entices me even more! I love the thought of tubing down a jungle, tropical river on a beautiful island. I'm up for a bit of adventure, so this would fit the bill nicely!

So please, oh please with a cherry on top, may I go on holiday? Please can I have unlimited funds and endless time to visit what I would like to and just do whatever appeals to me. OK? Cool. Thanks. I'll just go and pack my bags then, yeah...? Excellent.

Fill in the blank Friday

Better late than never...

1. The best thing I did all week was Going to a pub around the corner that does the most amazing Thai food with a big group of my friends. It was so yummy!

2. The fact that my boyfriend is coming home tomorrow makes me super happy.

3. Pets are interesting .

4. My friends and family are the best things about my life.

5. With the cooler weather I am looking forward to snoods (my new season obsession), warm knit accessories, boots, cozy blankets, being warm in the cold outside and warm, yummy drinks.

6. Something that's on my "wish list" right now is some ankle high Uggs. I REALLY want them. Like really.

7. This weekend I am going to Not doing much at all. Hanging out with friends and awaiting the return of the prodigal.

The California Trip Part 2

It has finally arrived.
The second part of the account of one of the best trips I've been on in a long time.

The last time I left off, we were at the Grand-beautiful-Canyon.

We stayed in that area for one day and spent the following morning before leaving soaking up the sun rays and splashing in the very shallow pool at our hotel.

Katie and Emily were my California buddies. They are two of my favourite people and I got to stay with them everywhere we went. We stayed at our host family in Orange County together and then when we went on our road trip, we stayed together in all the hotels we visited.
One night in Orange County, we were invited by some people we met to go and hang out at their house in their hot tub.
It. Was. Amazing.
The view was insane! We looked out onto a beautiful valley with a lovely moon shining down. It was very californian.

When we got back to Southern California, we spent a few days in Costa Mesa where we stayed at a local University which was a lot of fun. We ended up going to Newport Beach again one day where I had a famous Balboa Bar covered in Oreos. I was a fan.

On our last day in California, we checked into our last hotel near the airport during the morning meaning we had lots of time to chill out and enjoy the last day in LA. We used the pool's jacuzzi and pool during the day with the boys playing random games in the water while the rest of us, being the girls, dipped in and out while giving a last attempt at getting a Californian tan. Which generally failed. Oh well...next time.

The meal for the last evening inevitably had to be one last In-N-Out experience which the Boyfriend took to the full extent by ordering two of the biggest burgers along with two portions of massive chips. So attractive. Bless him.

A group of us decided to take full advantage of the evening and decided to venture to the cinema which turned out to be a FREAKING long walk away.

It ended up being a massive cinema which was SO cool!

We discovered that there was a seemingly good price to see Pirates of the Caribbean 4 so Katie, Will, Ben and I decided to splash our last Dollah on that. They were excited...

I thought it was pretty good. Thumbs up from me. The 3D glasses are especially sexy I feel.

All in all it was an awesome trip, definitely not a holiday and I will be returning.

California, wait for me. I loved you. I will come back. For longer this time. Promise.

Oh, hello July...

July has arrived (where on earth did June go?) and July means one thing: it's summertime! In my opinion, July is the ultimate summer month. No other quite compares. Here are some images to describe my loves, thoughts, wishes and feelings for this wonderful month. Because as we all know, a photo speaks a thousand words. And a thousand words would be a lot to read. So pictures are a better bet.

Favourite summer drink: Iced Caramel Macchiato. Yes please, every time!

Everything needs to be summer, even down to your pretty summertime nails. Perfect.

Sometimes, they just need to be told...

Pssst...je t'aime...

Remember!!!

Raspberry fingers! Or strawberry fingers or cherry fingers...I'm not fussy. Any fruit will do.

There's something about roses...
